In Phoenix Arizona, the residents suffer from a high prevalence of respiratory complications caused by air pollution. Residents with bronchitis, asthma, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases will, therefore, be at a high risk of developing respiratory complications as a result of the bad air quality (Frey et al., 2014).

The Clean Air Act (CAA) was enacted by Congress nearly 25 years ago. This act which provides for the monitoring of air pollutants in gaseous or solid forms and attempts to reduce such factors to quality standards can be said to be the main reason for the air pollution crises in Phoenix Arizona and the rising rates of respiratory infections among the population. Though the Clean Act (CAA) calls for the monitoring of Ozone (O3), Nitrogen oxide, Sulfur dioxide and particulates which have short term and long term effects on the respiratory tract, this policy is responsible for the creation of the respiratory diseases public health issue in Phoenix Arizona (Mar et al., 2015). This is because through the US Environmental protection Agency (EPA) has delegated the implementation of the policy to the Arizona Department of Environments Quality (ADEQ), the ADEQ has not come up with effective measures to reduce both solid and gaseous pollutants in the Phoenix Area.
